20th SEASON OF THE TEATRO REAL

8 NEW PRODUCTIONS, 4 OF THESE PREMIERE IN MADRID

The present season of the Teatro Real comes to an end encouraged by excellent ticket sales, the positive response by the audience and critics to the artistic proposals, and the growing involvement of society, businesses and institutions in the financing of its programme and activities. The economic success of the Teatro Real, whose self-financing represents around 72% of the overall budget, is now a model for other European theatres.

The next season –part of the commemorative triennium of the bicentenary of the Teatro Real (2016, 2017 and 2018) as well as the 20th season since its reopening– will offer a wide choice of musical ideas and interdisciplinary arts. These include 8 new co-productions by the Teatro Real, 4 of which will premiere in Madrid: Billy Budd(Britten), City of lies (Elena Mendoza, world premiere), Rodelinda (Händel) and Bomarzo (Ginastera).  See details below.

The season will open on September 15th with Otello, co-produced with the ENO (where it premiered in September 2014) and the Kungliga Operan of Stockholm– which will be broadcasted live worldwide on September 24 on Palco Digital (Teatro Real´s online platform) at no cost to viewers.
